In the project SwissRapide East, a line route with a distance of 42 km between the main stations of Zurich and Winterthur. The possibility of a stop at the Zurich international airport is also being investigated. The travel time would be approximately 8 minutes, dependent on the stop at the airport. The route and the stations must yet be co-ordinated with the canton, the cities and municipalities in the region within the context of the feasibility study.
With departures every 5 minutes during peak hours, SwissRapide offers at least 6-fold capacity for the line between Zurich and Winterthur, compared with today's railway services.
